Twitter responds to hundreds of billions of requests per day, and the Traffic team services support every one of those requests. Our work impacts Twitter worldwide. We build software and services that are fundamental to Twitter’s strategies around growth and revenue. New and exciting efforts are underway that will radically improve latencies and reliability worldwide.

What You’ll Do:

As a software developer on our team, you will work with highly talented engineers on one of the world's highest throughput platforms. You will participate in all of our initiatives, having ample opportunities to both learn and teach. You will be expected to lead some efforts while offering support for others. We collaborate to bring out the best in each other. You will make critical decisions, write designs and code that

  • Improves latency as perceived by our customers

  • Upgrades our security

  • Enhances the reliability of Twitter services

The services you create and operate will play a key role in Twitter user satisfaction and growth. You will diagnose, and troubleshoot complex distributed problems and develop solutions that have a significant impact at our massive scale. You will gain expertise in the ideas, software, and micro services for

  • DDoS mitigation

  • Latency minimization

  • Service Discovery

  • Authentication

  • Rate Limiting

Who You Are:

You have a track record of taking on and delivering solutions to challenging distributed systems problems.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years experience developing and operating large scale distributed systems with high availability

  • 2+ years experience with Java, Scala, and/or C++

  • BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience

Experience with some of the following is a plus:

  • Backend service development

  • Network protocols

  • Performance analysis

  • Proxy Servers

  • Development on the JVM

  • Asynchronous I/O

  • Multi threading

  • Concurrency

  • The Java memory model

  • OAuth

  • Netty

  • Finagle

  • Finatra

  • ZooKeeper
