Our Infrastructure engineering teams are responsible for the services and infrastructure that connect hundreds of millions of active Twitter users to real-time information about what’s relevant in their lives and the world we live in. Apart of 'Consumer Product' we work on the core features of twitter.com... think of timelines, tweets, search, trends, notifications, tweet details/permalink, and more! And we’re responsible for creating value from all of the data created and operating our services at massive speed and scale. We're hiring for the following teams:

  • Onboarding - Helping new and existing users understand the value of Twitter. We work on user facing experiences like sign up flow and algorithms to recommend the best accounts to follow.
  • ​Search Quality - Responsible for all real-time search on Twitter whether that’s for tweets, users, news, or videos.
  • Recommendations - Combining real time relevance, richer timelines, and recommendations, to put the most interesting content in front of the user at all times.  
  • Abuse - Through a mix of user-facing features and automated detection, we work to make Twitter a safe platform for everyone to share their views with the world.

What You’ll Do:

As a software engineer at Twitter, you will help us build, scale and maintain these systems, all of which have a direct impact on the lives of our users and the success of our business.

Who You Are:

  • You will build and maintain high-performance, scalable systems

  • You will improve the reliability and efficiency of Twitter's core systems

  • You will support Twitter’s internal APIs and user-facing products

  • You will develop elegant solutions to complex problems

  • Code using  Java, C/C++, Scala

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with backend infrastructure, distributed systems, performance analysis, and/or large-scale data processing

  • Experience with standard software engineering methodology (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation). Strong algorithms and data structures background

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent work experience

Desired (not required):

  • Experience designing fault-tolerant distributed systems in a service-oriented architecture

  • Experience with Hadoop or other MapReduce-based architectures

  • Experience with Cassandra, Redis, Memcached or MySQL

  • Contributions to the open-source community

Engineering Hiring Process

Step 1

Once your application is received, a recruiter will reach out pending your qualifications are a match for the role.

Step 2

If your background is a match, you may have 1-2 technical phone interviews or be given the chance to provide a work sample depending on the role.

Step 3

If the phone interviews go well or your work sample is strong, the final step includes interviews with 5-6 people held onsite in our office.
