Public Policy Manager - @Gov Focus

Tokyo

Twitter is a world-wide communications platform that is changing how people interact and communicate at home and at work.  The Twitter @Policy team focuses on public policy issues posed by the continuing spread of digital technology and web-based communications services around the world.  These issues range from freedom of expression, online safety, intellectual property, copyright, privacy, and Internet freedom.

The @Policy team also works to showcase the role of Twitter in government and for civic participation through its so-called @Gov work.  This is your opportunity to help drive this change, working with government officials, agencies and candidates to identify and champion best practices for using Twitter in civic discourse and for integrating Twitter into government services and civic processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line technical support to government, political, and civic customers of Twitter, solving problems and escalating to internal support and policy teams as needed.

  • Demonstrate entrepreneurial drive with respect to developing and implementing Twitter and Periscope integrations into the work of government and civic entities in ways that showcase the power of these platforms to meet the needs of governments and citizens.

  • Prepare training and presentation materials, including Keynote presentations, case studies, training handouts, and/or best practice guides for internal and external audiences.

  • Meet with key government, political, and civic customers and represent Twitter on panels and in group training settings.

  • Conduct research into government, political and civic use of Twitter, working with other Twitter team members to identify key metrics and narrative-boosting examples of successful use.

  • Contribute content to @gov, @policy, @nonprofits, and @twitterforgood handles and related blogs products.

  • Execute routine management tasks for the @policy team on government-related Twitter issues, including reviewing and approving requests for account verification, conducting outreach for new feature deployments, and maintaining contact lists for key client customers.

  • Be a core member of the @Policy team globally for event integrations, such as our efforts around elections, candidate debates, national party conventions, and other major government/political events.

Requirements

  • University degree; advanced degrees most welcome.

  • 7+ years experience in government or politics or technology, with deep familiarity across all three disciplines.

  • Significant experience with and superlative fluency in communications and/or social media technology, combined with a passion about the power of communications to change the world for the better.

  • Strong entrepreneurial, organisational, and operational abilities.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication and relationship skills.

  • English language fluency; additional language skills a distinct plus.

  • Sense of humour and exquisite judgment.
