Engineering Manager, Client Developer Experience (Remote Friendly)

The Position

Who We Are:

The Client Developer Experience team is responsible for the tools and processes that enable our globally distributed mobile engineering team to work as productively as possible. We work to improve developer velocity in all phases of the development process and tackle challenges in a breadth of areas such as codebase structure, build tools, test infrastructure, source control, and CI/CD.

What You’ll Do:

We believe passion and personality matter. As such, we need someone who can lead teams of diverse, smart, and driven engineers while balancing personnel challenges with business requirements.  A successful engineering manager will:

  • Mentor the professional development of each direct report through personal feedback and performance management.

  • Give engineers the tools, confidence, and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to the recognition of your engineers and not just yourself.

  • Build and foster a team culture that is positive, encouraging, inclusive, and engaging.

  • Communicate early and often, building a culture of trust and collaboration between engineers and teams across multiple offices, across organizations and time zones.

  • Facilitate in building the group’s technical strategy and roadmap – creating success metrics and prioritizing the team’s work in close collaboration with other engineering teams and product managers in multiple organizations.

  • Contribute to product vision by participating in research and customer engagement to solve customer problems

  • Be an effective sourcer of engineering talent and be comfortable closing candidates.

  • Partner closely with customer teams and service provider teams to align roadmaps and design incentives for shared success.

You will enable Twitter to release more features to mobile users all over the world. Your work will help drive company strategic metrics and will be improving the workflow of engineers around the world.

Who You Are:

  • You have significant technical experience and expertise related to mobile engineering, tooling, infrastructure, or productivity.

  • You’ve led projects with and know how to build alignment across a set of cross-functional peers.

  • You are experienced with software engineering methodologies and bring disciplined approach to testing and driving reductions in technical debt.

  • You have experience leading engineers at all levels and you’re skilled at coaching and guiding your directs through their career development.

  • You have excellent communication skills and can demonstrate having collaborated with tech leads and senior engineers, Product Managers, Designers and other disciplines to deliver new products to market and iteratively improve these products over time.

  • You can clearly articulate desired outcomes and empower engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems. You make your arguments based on facts and data, but understand how to value and include intuition in the decision-making process.

  • You have the ability to gather product and business requirements and to gut check new ideas and proposals. You have a consistent track record of establishing and driving technical advances.

 

Qualifications

  • Previous engineering management experience

  • You're happy working within a distributed work environment, collaborating across time zones and cultures.

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 4 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Tier A: USD $186,000 - USD $259,000
  • Tier B: USD $175,000 - USD $247,000
  • Tier C: USD $167,000 - USD $234,000
  • Tier D: USD $157,000 - USD $220,000

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
