Privacy tooling is part of the Privacy Tooling and Infrastructure Engineering org is chartered to build tools that enable Twitter teams to make data-informed decisions about privacy promises and help drive seamless privacy implementation, bridging the gap between policy, promises, and execution across Twitter products, services, and platforms most efficiently and productively, for example, building tools that can classify data using sophisticated ML Models, or automated privacy review workflows.

Who You Are:

We seek an engineering leader with technical depth, product intuition, and entrepreneurial spirit to lead the engineering team working on building the next-gen tooling for privacy implementation across Twitter. The person will play a vital role throughout the planning, development, and delivery of solutions working in close collaboration with product management, design, data science, security, legal, policy, communications, and many product and engineering teams across Twitter.

You should be comfortable in uncharted territory as we build unique privacy tooling, infrastructure, and auditing frameworks to drive user trust. We need your skills and enthusiasm to make it happen. You have previous experience leading high-performing teams working at scale. You will enjoy pursuing novel, ambiguous problems, collaborating with various diverse partners, and bringing a strong learning orientation.

As an engineering manager, you will lead the careers of extraordinary software developers. You’ll work with internal customers across engineering at Twitter.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and deliver high-impact, forward-looking roadmaps for your teams

  • Communicating fearlessly to build trust with diverse stakeholders

  • Contribute to a culture of technical and operational excellence by evangelizing and adopting best practices with well-defined goals and metrics

  • Helping solve cross-team problems at scale

  • Foster cross-functional and cross-team collaboration by building trust and relationships with security, legal, policy, platform, and Product, as well as many product and engineering teams.

  • You can identify opportunities and have a knack for quick execution. 

  • Recruit talent. Mentor, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team.

  • Build a diverse, inclusive, fair, collaborative, and dynamic team environment.



Experience and Skills

  • 6+ years of experience leading software engineering teams; previously led an organization of 10+ engineers (and managers) and successfully delivered on business objectives.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science or engineering

  • Comfortable managing multiple technically complex projects in parallel

  • Robust project management skills, including work estimation, prioritization, planning, tracking, and retrospectives

  • A good record of recruiting, managing, and retaining talent

  • Empathetic, self-aware, and learning-oriented leadership style

  • High-judgement, data-driven decision-maker

  • Strong communication skills

  • Experience building user-facing tools

  • Nice to have previous experience in privacy and security (not mandatory)

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 4 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Tier A: USD $212,000 - USD $297,000
  • Tier B: USD $202,000 - USD $282,000
  • Tier C: USD $191,000 - USD $267,000
  • Tier D: USD $179,000 - USD $253,000

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
