Engineering Manager - Core Services, API Tools (Remote Eligible)

The mission of the API Tooling team is to make it fast and easy for Twitter to build product features that are efficient and reliable at scale with best-in-class tools available at their disposal.  We are responsible for Twitter's next-generation APIs and tools that help our product teams increase the pace of product development to serve the public conversation to over a billion users.

The Position

What You’ll Do:

  • You will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to develop, prioritize, communicate, and execute on a roadmap of best-in-class solutions for self-serve tooling platforms for product development at Twitter. 

  • Lead the API Tooling team, driving its technical strategy and roadmap – crafting success metrics in close collaboration with your peers across the company

  • Bring a strong perspective that inspires change and motivates engineers to develop simple solutions to complex problems and successfully execute on those.

  • Together with your team collaborate with many engineering teams and product management to develop best-in-class solutions for our internal APIs to support fast product iteration and improve application performance

Who You Are:

  • Have led projects with a complicated stakeholder space and can build organizational alignment

  • Have excellent communication skills and can clearly articulate desired outcomes

  • Have strong empathy for internal customers

  • Have a track record of delivering new products and iteratively improving them over time

  • Have an interest in GraphQL or related technology or eager to learn

  • Have experience in API Design and tooling development 

  • Have the technical capacity to partner with tech leads and help drive incident resolution

  • Are a great source of engineering talent and have proven ability to hire and retain

  • Have experience in performance management, career development, etc

  • Are a strong advocate of software engineering best practices and bring a disciplined approach to testing, continuous delivery, and reducing technical debt



  • Previously managed a team of 6 or more engineers

  • Minimum of 2+ years in software engineering management

  • BA/BS or higher in Computer Science (or equivalent work experience)

  • Have worked as a software developer, front end or full stack development experience is a plus

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 4 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Tier A: USD $186,000 - USD $259,000
  • Tier B: USD $175,000 - USD $247,000
  • Tier C: USD $167,000 - USD $234,000
  • Tier D: USD $157,000 - USD $220,000

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
