The Position

As a Director of Technical Program Management, you will be joining the TPM leadership team at Twitter and lead a capable and growing team of TPMs. You’ll be leading and supporting some of Twitter’s most mission-critical programs building the Twitter Consumer Product. You and your team will partner closely with leaders across the company to plan, resource, and drive execution of top company priorities with a focus on innovation, growth, and the customer. This role is deeply cross-functional, and building positive relationships across Product, Engineering, Design, Research, Data Science, Legal, Marketing, and other functions will be essential to the success of this leader.

As the central TPM function, we are tasked with delivering large, ambiguous initiatives that directly advance our mission. We build realistic execution plans, identify and mitigate risks, coordinate across engineering teams and supporting functions, communicate with clarity, and ultimately deliver predictable results.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to proactively understand their needs and opportunities for your team, and define the team’s vision and strategy
  • Develop a transparent and efficient resourcing plan that aligns your team to a large portfolio of programs
  • Help scale your team’s impact by setting good goals, up-leveling individual skills, using existing skills well, and favoring automation over manual work
  • Hire, develop, retain and grow strong leaders at all levels in your organization
  • Instill a culture of compassion and dedication that continues to build on the TPM brand and reflects our core values
  • Lead your team with empathy through execution, by thoughtfully motivating, energizing, empowering, supporting, unblocking, sheltering, and advocating for them
  • Partner with your peers leading other TPM teams to strengthen the craft: create standard methodologies for delivery and focus on continuous improvement across the function
  • Navigate social dynamics gracefully, and establish yourself and the team as a neutral entity that shines daylight on program areas that need attention
  • Focus on personal and team development by constantly soliciting, giving, and incorporating constructive feedback

Qualifications

  • Experienced cross-functional leader with a solid track record partnering with Engineering and Product teams to define strategy and requirements
  • Seasoned people manager with 10+ years leading Engineering and/or Program Management teams.
  • Team builder who mentors, supports, and invests in their team to help them unlock their potential.
  • Strong technical background in consumer internet product development.
  • Strong program management and stakeholder management expertise.
  • Executive level written and verbal communication.
  • Systems thinker and a quantitative approach to problem solving.
  • Deep focus on execution, follow-through, accountability and results.
  • Excellent cross-team collaboration, able to work across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries to get the job done.
  • Highly tuned emotional intelligence, good listener, and deep seated empathy for teams and partners
  • Dedication to teams over individuals as the primary performance unit
  • Strong growth mentality and a servant leadership approach

The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 4 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Tier A: USD $212,000 - USD $297,000
  • Tier B: USD $202,000 - USD $282,000
  • Tier C: USD $191,000 - USD $267,000
  • Tier D: USD $179,000 - USD $253,000

This job is also eligible for participation in Twitter’s Performance Bonus Plan and Equity Incentive Plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies.
