Sr. Legal Counsel, Payment Products

The Position

What You’ll Do:

  • Advance global legal strategy and provide legal advice to Twitter’s product group and engineering teams as they build out online payments products and features for Twitter from the initial stages of product development, to launch, and beyond.  

  • The product groups you will support build features and products that enable creators to monetize their online participation in the public conversation, among other things.  

  • Help build scalable and effective processes for providing legal input to clients on strategic product initiatives.

  • Work collaboratively across multiple functions, including Legal, Compliance, Product, Finance, Tax, Engineering, Trust & Safety, Policy, Communications, and Business Development.

  • Stay up-to-date on relevant U.S. and international laws and regulations, especially those related to financial services and other payments regulation, AML/KYC, privacy, intellectual property, and consumer protection, among others.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams on responses to regulatory audits/inquiries.



Product Counsel must have a deep understanding of Twitter’s products and business, and an ability to guide clients with clear, practical advice in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for people who are collaborative, self-motivated, curious, creative, and clear communicators (both written and verbal). A successful candidate will have expertise in the legal areas we face on a daily basis - such as privacy and data protection, content regulation, copyright, advertising, and consumer protection - and willingness and ability to continue to learn and stay abreast of changing laws.


  • 10+ years of legal experience is preferred, specifically in the subject matter areas of financial services and other payments regulation, consumer protection, and privacy.

  • Solution-oriented, customer service, and growth mindset - you welcome diverse perspectives and engage problems with curiosity. 

  • Ability to integrate into cross-functional teams with a cooperative and participatory approach.

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain complex ideas in a succinct and impactful manner.  

  • Bar admission or equivalent and in good standing to practice law in your relevant jurisdiction.  


  • Experience as an in-house adviser for consumer platforms dealing in payments products involving money transmission, gift cards and other forms of stored value, as well as other forms of payment, such as mobile carrier billing, cryptocurrency, and e-wallets etc.  


  • A deep understanding of global payments-related issues on new and existing legislation ; a strong understanding of current and emerging data privacy laws (CCPA, GDPR, ePrivacy Directive. LGPD); and a working understanding of content delivery consumer protection laws (CAN-SPAM Act, CDA, etc.).
