Software Engineer - Logging & Tracing

The Position

Who We Are

The Observability Engineering Group is at the heart of the Twitter platform supporting every engineering team at Twitter. The group builds monitoring infrastructure covering operational metrics, centralized logging, and distributed tracing for every team at Twitter across multiple data centers, public cloud, and many other smaller regions.  We operate at an industry competitive scale on the order of collecting tens of billions of metrics every minute and hundreds of terabytes of data every day. 

The Logging & Tracing team focuses on building the centralized logging & distributed tracing Infrastructure.  We build the log collection and ingestion pipelines for a number of Twitter environments & services and operate Splunk at scale. We also build and operate a large scale distributed tracing infrastructure based on Zipkin and offer tracing based analytics solutions that power a variety of our engineering use cases.

What You'll Do

As an engineer on the team, you will be responsible for designing & developing highly performant and complex distributed systems. You will also enhance the existing stack to be up to date with emerging technology trends. 

Qualifications

  • B.S.+ in Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience) with 2+ years of experience
  • Experience with building and operating large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience coming up with technical solutions, writing technical design docs, and driving projects to completion
  • Previous experience with any Observability system is a big plus. 
  • Fluent in one or more object-oriented languages like Java, Scala, C++, C#
  • Customer obsession to build the most delightful products
