Software Engineer - Coordination Infrastructure

The Position

Who We Are

The Coordination team develops and operates highly-available foundational services that are used by almost every engineer at Twitter to build higher-level distributed applications. Our vision is to provide robust control plane infrastructure for Twitter that serves use cases such as distributed coordination, service discovery, topology management, and configuration management.

What You Will Do

As an Engineer in the Coordination team, you will build resilient, high-performance, and widely-used systems that power business-critical applications. You will develop services and libraries in Scala and Java, and tooling and automation in Python and Ruby. You will deploy and manage services on bare metal server fleets as well as container platforms such as Mesos and Kubernetes. You will learn and contribute to cutting-edge open-source technologies such as Finagle and ZooKeeper. You will be able to mentor some of the most promising engineers in the industry as well as learn from some of the most experienced engineers in the field.  You will have the opportunity to improve team and company processes, set the standard for the quality of software delivery, and emphasize the importance of security and privacy.

  • Strong algorithms, data structures, and coding background
  • Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation)
  • Experience with building and maintaining data intensive applications and distributed systems
  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with Java, Scala, C, C++, or any other modern systems language
  • We would love to see experience with distributed storage systems such as ZooKeeper, etcd, Helix, DynamoDB, or S3. Experience working with container orchestrators such as Apache Mesos or Kubernetes is also welcome. A history of open source contributions is a bonus.
