Software Engineer II - Core API

The Position

What You’ll Do

You'll join our Core API team aiming to radically improve the way Twitter clients get their data. Day-to-day you'll be designing, building, and maintaining the Twitter core API infrastructure which includes GraphQL API and asynchronous event delivery system. You will work to onboard new clients, add support for new data, as well as create tools for our engineers building the Twitter product.

Twitter GraphQL is already serving millions of queries and the asynchronous event delivery system pushes billions of events per day, and that's just the start.

You'll write user-friendly guides and documentation to make it easy for client and server engineers to use our services, and spend time with client teams to identify where we can provide the most value.

Your work will make our apps much more data-efficient and reliable, helping Twitter reach countries with developing communications networks and allow client engineers to rapidly build high-quality products.

At Twitter, you can have a truly global impact.

You have:

  • An interest in GraphQL or related technology

  • Built and maintained high-performance, scalable systems in a microservice environment

  • Great verbal and written communication skills

  • Empathy for internal customers

  • Experience in API & service architecture design

  • Solid understanding of the client/server technology stack (HTTP, REST, compression, serialization, error handling)

  • Experience with Scala, Java, Clojure or other server-side technology

  • Some experience working on a native (iOS or Android) or web application, so you can not only understand the complexities and requirements of client-side software engineers but also build/improve developer tooling

  • Endless curiosity and ability to work both collaboratively and independently

Company Description

Who We Are:

Our mission is to enable rapid product iteration at the Twitter scale through powerful generic building blocks, flexible abstractions, and self-service tooling!

The Core Service teams provide interfaces and tools that make it easy to build on top of Twitter data and core Twitter objects (such as Tweets and Users) while minimizing operational concerns and ensuring user privacy.

Our application infrastructure is critical to the product and must be highly reliable and scale to millions of requests per second.

Working together on building and operating our own high-scale systems is a rare and exciting challenge! We are a tightly-knit and supportive group that loves working together, and we are looking for outstanding additions to our flock.
