Sr. Engineering Manager, Metadata Services

The Position

Who We Are:

The Data Experience organization of Twitter's data platform is responsible for identifying, deploying, and supporting state of the art data analysis, business intelligence, and behavioral analytics tools that operate at Twitter scale, such as BigQuery, Looker, Druid and Interana. Data Experience is also responsible for tools which help with simplifying data discovery, data management and job scheduling, as well as the data portal that is the main entry point for discovering and managing data inside Twitter.

You will be leading a team that owns Twitter's Metadata system, providing oversight of technology evolution, feature delivery and customer adoption.

  • You are a strong believer in servant leadership, and are there first and foremost to bring the best out of other people.

  • You have a track record of leading and managing engineering teams that are highly cohesive, have low attrition, and rate themselves as very healthy.


  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • Have 2 or more years of experience tech-leading or managing a team of 3 or more engineers building complex production grade software systems

  • Expected for Senior Leveling:

  • Previously managed multiple teams of 8 or more engineers

  • Minimum of 5+ years in software engineering management (could be less - 3-4 years) if you have several years of experience moving up as an IC into leadership roles or had significant leadership responsibilities.)

  • Experience driving impact through cross-functional leadership.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with backend platform systems

  • Bonus for experience with cloud technologies, metadata systems

  • Experience in Agile/Lean software development methodologies such as Scrum.

  • You are passionate about technology and can keep up with the latest trends. 

  • Experience working with distributed teams across multiple time-zones.
