Software Engineer - Observability
Who We Are:
Twitter’s globally distributed, real-time communications network generates trillions of events and petabytes of data per day. Observability team provides a comprehensive set of diagnostic tools/services for Twitter engineers to troubleshoot incidents. As engineers on this team, we build world class distributed services and storage infrastructure to handle billions of metrics per minute, petabytes of logs and traces.
What You’ll Do:
You will be responsible for contributing to and helping guide the future of our systems that hold petabytes of data, serve millions of queries per second, and are used by every development team at Twitter. You will develop highly-performant algorithms and data structures, solve complex distributed systems problems, and envision and innovate the next solutions that will bolster the foundation of diagnostics tools at Twitter. You will further push the scale of our services that already handle enormous amounts of data and traffic.

Who You Are:

You take satisfaction in building resilient, high-performance, and thoroughly tested systems that can power the most business-critical applications. You have a passion for making the life of your coworkers easy by building the most elegant diagnostic tools aggregating all kinds of metadata from the services. You want to learn, work with, and contribute to cutting-edge open-source technologies.
The ideal person has experience building highly scalable distributed services, time-series databases and actively makes contributions to open-source software.
- Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation).
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with Java, Scala or another modern systems language.

Engineering Hiring Process
Once your application is received, a recruiter will reach out pending your qualifications are a match for the role.
If your background is a match, you may have 1-2 technical phone interviews or be given the chance to provide a work sample depending on the role.
If the phone interviews go well or your work sample is strong, the final step includes interviews with 5-6 people held onsite in our office.
