Technical Streaming Producer for Streaming Online Video, Contractor (Tokyo)


Twitter is streaming live content every day. Twitter is looking for a technical streaming producer to help make our live streams even more successful. Technical streaming producer will work closely with our Global Content Partnership, Ad Sales, Consumer Product and Growth Marketing teams to plan how a brand’s live stream will fit into the brand’s marketing plan, how the brand’s stream will appear on Twitter, and to help the brand run the live stream.

This is a Fixed Term Assignment for 12 months  - 18months.

Who We Are:

Twitter has an unmatched depth and breadth of content, ranging from Social TV to Sports Events, from an average person to the most well-known public figures, from small talk to breaking news.

As technical streaming producer in Tokyo, you will settle show format (including ads format) prior to showtime, will ensure all broadcast partners are rehearsed on the format prior to showtime, and will acquire the broadcast signal from the broadcast partner(s) at the time of the show. Production responsibilities include video and audio provisioning, routing and monitoring multiple feeds and active monitoring of encoding systems and streams during the live event. Ensuring broadcast partners follow the show format (and deliver the expected ads) is critical, as is reacting to changes in format (when circumstances require a change). You will have support of a programme office in the U.S. and a master schedule to work from.

What You’ll Do:

During the run of your shows the technical streaming producer will monitor for and react to alerts within the environment and be able to resolve or bring in resources to solve them in a timely manner. You will also assist with the development of tools used to execute the show.

The technical streaming producer will effectively triage and troubleshoot a complex environment operating at a massive scale, and take ownership of running with multiple production issues, from alert to hand-off or resolution, to follow up. Interact with external parties for blocking issues and support broadcast partners that integrate with the Twitter platform. Streamline communication between external parties.

Technical Streaming Producer will implement lightweight but high-quality process and documentation with respect to complex systems. Must have strong effective communicating and disseminating information to other teams and executive management. Prior experience with online streaming of live events a huge plus.

Who You Are:

  • For example you could be an online producer whose skills are in marketing, social media, storytelling, and multimedia production

  • Or you could edit and curate media on a online site, making sure it’s live and working. Come from a TV channel and work the digital spectrum, posting clips from your TV show

  • You’ve worked with online video so you understand all the nuances and players so you can work through issues, and you know who to call or ask if something goes wrong

  • You could be a traditional video producer, and know how to edit content for social distribution (and understand how online advertising is different from traditional advertising)

  • You might have run a video production program, and know how to manage many different components of a show

  • You might be a digital marketing strategist

  • You might have run a video production program, and know how to manage many different components of a show

  • You might have experience in professionally or personally streaming live video content

  • The main thing is to understand and be familiar with online video idiosyncrasies and streaming issues that happen in real time. You know how to get a show “on air” and keep it there (in the digital world)


  • Be a digital and multimedia specialist and have experience with the digital online ecosystem, like putting news online and videos online in real time to tight production schedules (Twitter account, YouTube account, Twitch account, Facebook, websites)

  • Triages and troubleshoots triage-scale and complex online environment as this is for Live Video

  • Ability to collaboratively develop monitoring and alerting solutions

  • Knowledge of live streaming technology (previous streaming experience a big plus)

  • Knowledge of how famous, well known brands and content holders use Twitter to get their message out

  • Ability to update web pages (text, graphics, timelines)

  • Ability to work with all members of the live production both internally and externally

  • Fluency in both Japanese and English (speaking, reading & writing)
