Software Engineer-Feature Switches, Seattle
Who We Are
Twitter is looking for an outstanding engineer to work on a client configuration system that controls the exposure of new changes and products to end users. Feature Switches are integral to product features as they progress through initial development, internal testing, alpha, beta, release and finally sunsetting. Feature Switches provides a complex and powerful rule based system for remotely controlling Twitter’s mobile applications and web experience. Feature Switches also plays a key role in how we configure our A/B experimentation and gather data for analysis.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be part of a small team working on high-impact and challenging services. You’ll collaborate with teams across the company including mobile client engineering, Home/Timelines service, experimentation, and release engineering among others. You’ll improve the client configuration system by making it more flexible, dependable and simple to use. This work will take you across the full tech-stack, from all client interfaces (mobile and web), to middle tier and core platform and infrastructure services. You’ll help with internal tools designed to help other engineers configure, test and validate product feature configuration settings. You’ll implement and design the web UI and the HTTP services supporting these internal tools. You'll help develop and maintain the infrastructure which serves Feature Switches to every active Twitter client.
Who You Are
You are passionate about building massively scalable systems and have experience with web infrastructure, distributed systems, performance analysis, large-scale data processing, and/or modern networking concepts. You’re proficient in picking up new languages and technologies across the stack.
You enjoy hunting down bugs and improving service architecture as much as you enjoy working with engineers to brainstorm new ways to use the technology you’ve built.
You have strong communication skills, can work independently and don’t mind spending some time on video chat, since our team is geographically distributed.
Applicants with strong experience beyond these basic qualifications may be considered for this role at Senior or Staff Software Engineer level.
Experience with at least one of the following languages: Scala, Java, and/or any functional language. We code primarily in Scala, so you’ll be excited to either ramp up on that or continue building awesome things with it.
BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience with software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation).
