Twitter is looking for a IT System Engineer to add to our IT infrastructure engineering team. Our mission is to design and deliver the most efficient infrastructure to enable our customers, the Twitter employees, to do the best work. We are looking to take our team to the next level.


What You’ll Do:

As a System Engineer, you will help design, implement and maintain the services that power Twitter’s corporate infrastructure. You will work with engineering teams to support solutions that deliver a variety of service including Windows Virtualization, Phones, DNS/DNCP, Endpoint Engineering and Management, Monitoring and Automation.

  • Work with hardware engineering to design, validate, maintain systems.

  • Develop automation of qualification test framework for new hardware systems.

  • Troubleshoot and drive corrective actions of Linux kernels, drivers, and firmware (BIOS and BMC) issues.

  • You will collaborate regularly with internal product teams to understand requirements and cultivate product knowledge.

  • You will generate and review validation plans and oversee execution and test reports

  • Be able to work with other engineers to define, develop, and improve test scripts


  • Technical Degree (BS Computer Science) or equivalent

  • 1+ years professional experience in software and system engineering.

  • Linux/Unix systems administration

  • Hardware installation and configuration Experience with global IP Telephone networks

  • Demonstrate core knowledge of common applications and protocols including: HTTP/Apache, DNS/BIND, TCP/IP, SSH, DHCP, SNMP, NFS, Puppet, Cacti, NTP, MySQL

  • Familiarity with implementing and supporting common network & systems monitoring tools including: Syslog, MRTG, nagios, & Cacti Experience with office builds and facilities expansion projects.

  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting tools (i.e tcpdump, netstat, iostat, traceroute)

  • Experience with VMware, Citrix or other virtualization technologies Comfortable in a fast paced, high-growth IT environment

  • Desired Qualifications B.S. in Computer science or equivalent experience.

  • Write and maintain administrative scripts using Perl, Python, and/or Ruby Experience writing tools and automation o help with day to day tasks.

  • Comprehensive understanding of OSI model with a specific concentration on Layers 2-3 Understanding of best security practices
