Data Protection Officer (Dublin)

We are looking for an experienced professional to serve as Twitter’s Data Protection Officer.  As Data Protection Officer, you will help oversee a data protection and privacy compliance program to ensure that Twitter complies with all applicable data protection and privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). You will work collaboratively across multiple teams to build and enhance an appropriate compliance framework for developing and deploying products, infrastructure and policies that adhere to best-in-class privacy practices. You will also act as the primary point of contact for Twitter and its employees, regulators, and the public for issues relating to our data protection and privacy compliance program.

Responsibilities: The Data Protection Officer will, in accordance with Article 39 of the GDPR, be responsible for, among other duties:

  • Informing and advising Twitter and our employees of their obligations to comply with the GDPR and other data protection laws.

  • Monitoring compliance with the GDPR, European and national data protection laws and Twitter policies, including awareness-raising and training of staff involved in processing operations, and conducting internal audits as needed

  • Providing advice where requested on data protection impact assessments pursuant to Article 35 of the GDPR

  • Consulting and engaging with relevant Data Protection Authorities and serving as the primary contact point for the Data Protection Authorities on issues relating to the processing of personal data

  • Being available for inquiries from data subjects on issues such as data protection practices, withdrawal of consent, and other rights


  • Expert knowledge of privacy and data protection law  

  • Substantial experience engaging with Data Protection Authorities

  • Excellent academic credentials - advanced degrees preferred

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of technology and how the internet works

  • Strong communication skills

  • Experience in building internal privacy and/or compliance programs

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across-functionally across an organization
