Global Head of Social

Twitter seeks a strong, innovative, strategic lead to drive the evolution and expansion of our social media, digital content and community management efforts. This person will be a key member of Twitter’s Global Marketing Team and will specifically sit within the Brand and Creative Studio.  

We are seeking a skilled wordsmith and gracious leader to shape our social strategy and marketing messaging of the 140 character kind. Guide and welcome our global community from their first tweet onward. You’ll be responsible for strategizing how we tell our story in the social sphere and will help ensure our community is up to date on the latest product features and functionality, while highlighting those “Only on Twitter” moments.  From sports to science, politics to pop-culture, the Head of Social Strategy will work with a team of community managers, producers, designers, and creators to determine how and when we join the conversation. This person will also be responsible for identifying and activating leaders, influencers, and passionate communities with shared interests.

We are looking for someone who appreciates the value of punchy language and bold brevity, but knows how to navigate a tweetstorm. This role is a nuanced and powerful opportunity to help drive and amplify the voice of Twitter and more importantly, the voices of our users.


  • Own the development of an operational framework to execute a world-class social media strategy that engages, drives conversation and strengthens relationships with target audiences worldwide

  • Attract and retain users by educating, elevating and engaging.

  • Establish guidelines and style guides to ensure all assets meet brand and marketing objectives while delighting our diverse community.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to define global architecture and assess the health of current social media channels.

  • Ideate and create content programs with thumb-stopping power.

  • Scenario plan for planned, live and reactive moments; create assets to post in real time.

  • Coach and mentor community managers and content strategists on social communication best practices

  • Execute on marketing strategies as it relates to the social environment

  • Lead guidelines and policy development for global toolkit distribution

  • Partner with internal teams to ensure brand and content consistency, developing tools, templates and processes to facilitate improvement and adherence to guidelines

  • Leverage data to analyze, identify and package ongoing social media best practices and campaign results for company distribution, providing recommendations for future efforts

  • Lead internal and external training and onboarding for new stakeholders

  • Stay abreast of evolving trends, best practices, and tools for social media

  • Help establish standards for measurement, tools and analytics

  • Manage and advise on vendors, tools and platforms as necessary, adding a level of rigor and problem solving to vendor and technology investments

  • Develop a nimble team of community managers, content strategists and producers that managed the day to day execution of our social channels.

  • Monitor Twitter trends and make real-time editorial recommendations to attract and retain users.

  • Analyze, interpret and report on social data and insights

  • Work with the creative studio to create engaging assets (photos,GIFs, videos, etc.)

  • Manage social coverage of live events.

  • Run the NYC war room during live events and activations.



  • You rarely miss a #TBT or #FollowFriday and have joined in many late night GIF parties.  

  • 8+ years’ experience in social media, delivering smart and effective corporate strategy and operations – preferably in a global organization; agency or consulting background a strong plus

  • You are an unbiased and inspired content creator, sharp curator and strategic comms expert with strong news judgment and a knack for sourcing the best.

  • Fluent in emoji  

  • Highly detailed and organized; project management experience a plus

  • A passion for process and expertise for helping organizations build foundations for social media success

  • Both a strategic thinker and a tactical executor, with a roll-up-your-sleeves bias for action and an ability to drive both serious and silly on-brand executions

  • A data geek, who leverages meaningful metrics to inform content plans and programs.

  • Experience with vendor and agency management

  • Corporate comms experience preferred.
